Carina Keskitalo is Professor of Political Science at the Department of Geography and Economic History, Umeå University, Sweden. She works mainly in the fields of environmental policy including a focus on climate change and the arctic, renewable resource and land use issues. She has led large-scale research projects such as the Mistra Arctic Sustainable Development programme (Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research, SEK 40 million 2014-2018), and the Planning for rural-urban dynamics: living and acting at several places programme, focused on new forest owners (PLURAL, Swedish Research Council FORMAS, SEK 25 million 2012-2017). She is deputy coordinator on two International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) units/working parties, associate editor/member of editorial board of journals in interdisciplinary environmental/arctic fields, and a Global Young Academy alumnus. Keskitalo is one of the seven chief scientific advisors to the European Commission.
